Backyard Healthcare Project is dedicated to supporting our community’s health and wellness. Your support allows us to honor our commitment to keep care affordable and accessible for everyone in our community who needs us – regardless of their income.
A gift to Backyard Healthcare Project allows us to continue to provide these services through our low sliding scale, while also subsidizing care to low-income patients. When a person needs significant treatment and life situations prevent our sliding scale from being affordable, we make every effort to reduce our rate as much as possible. Your support enables us to do this with greater ease and frequency.
Did you know that Arizona lets you direct where some of your taxes go? If you pay Arizona income tax, you can direct part of your taxes to help those who can’t afford to pay full price for their treatments at TACO. Also, the IRS now has FREE e-tax-filing software if you make less than $79K.
Backyard Healthcare Project is a Qualifying Charitable Organization, approved as such by the State Department of Revenue. You may claim an AZ tax credit for voluntary cash contributions you make during any taxable year to a Qualifying Charitable Organization. A Qualifying Charitable Organization is a charity that is a 501(c)3 that spends at least 50% of its budget on services to certain Arizona residents and in this case, who are low income residents.
Our nonprofit’s name Backyard Healthcare Project is listed on the Department of Revenue’s website as of December 1, 2015 and our QCO code is 20750. There was an increase to the maximum amount that taxpayers can claim. Taxpayers filing as “single” and “head of household” status may claim a maximum credit of $421. Taxpayers filing as “married filing separate” may claim a maximum credit of $421. Taxpayers that file as “married filing jointly” may claim a maximum credit of $841.
How does it work?
Making a AZ Tax Credit donation to Tucson Acupuncture Co-op (TACO) is as easy as 1, 2, 3…
- When filing state taxes, you will get to AZ Dept of Revenue Form 321 where it will ask about any “donations to Qualifying Charitable Organizations”. NOTE: when E-filing, this form will NOT pop up, it will be abbreviated and will most likely look like 1-2 boxes where you will put the following info in. It will usually first ask for the Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO) code, which ours is 20750. Our non-profit name is Backyard Healthcare Project. The next box will ask for the donation amount, and usually at this point your e-filing system will estimate how much you owe. For taxes in 2023 you can put whatever dollar amount up to $421 per person, or $841 if you file jointly. The system will then sub-track the amount you indicated for a donation in total owed, or will send you a refund for the amount if you’ve already had taxes withheld from your W-2’s. You e-filing platform will indicate that.
- Send your donation over to us! You can either pay by clicking the link below, or bringing cash/check by the clinic. We try to avoid credit cards as we pay a processing fee. We will then send you an receipt via email indicating the donation amount with our official letterhead and other tax info. Please save this email, as it will serve as a legal receipt should the AZ Dept of Revenue ever ask for proof of payment. That’s it!
- One important detail: your donation must be made before you file your income tax return. Donations to be claimed on your 2023 tax return must be made before April 15, 2024.
